NATIVE MILKWEEDS for our Pollinator Project! Native milkweeds are great addition to the home pollinator friendly landscape. (Its important to plant native varieties, which bloom in sync with native butterfly host and nectar needs, not exotic varities from other counties.) Pictured below are a Swamp milkweed, Asclepias incarnata, and feeding Monarch; a Common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca; and a Butterfly milkweed, Asclepias tuberosa with a native bumblebee. Also pictured is Friend's volunteer Sam Spiller with repotted milkweed plants salvaged by volunteers from the Pigeon Creek Prairie Restoration field, soon to be sprayed to eliminate invasive species.
